Head lice no more with Oilganics Treatment Shampoo!

I was nothing short of horrified when my mother discovered that my 4-year-old daughter had lice (otherwise known in the Philippines as "kuto"). "Kuto"??? No way, I thought. Not my little girl. At the time, I barely even knew what lice or kuto meant, except that it was something utterly distasteful. I did not fully comprehend at the time how disgusting and annoyingly itchy they were, and how easily and quickly they spread throughout one's scalp and hair. I shuddered at the thought of all those little insects with their numerous legs crawling all over my daughter's head!

I wanted them out. FAST. We got a fine-toothed comb and tried the manual method at first. We shampooed her hair 2 to 3 times a day. Still they continued to spread. Research revealed a quick-acting lice shampoo that only required one treatment, but it seemed as popular as it was controversial. For every site lauding its effectiveness, there was another talking about how it was actually an insecticide and could be dangerous for very young children. I was desperate to find another, natural solution.

Finally, I stumbled upon a smartparenting article entitled How to Get Rid of your Child's Head Lice. It talked about an all-natural head lice shampoo that was safe to use. I immediately jumped to the Oilganics website, which featured their shampoo and conditioner. It would take two weeks of regular use to get ride of the lice, but it was NATURAL and SAFE. I hung on to those two words and used it on my daughter (and everyone else in our household!).

Two weeks later, my daughter was finally lice-free! We continued to use the shampoo and conditioner for a month for good measure.

The best part is - I recently had my hair rebonded with L'Oreal Extenso Rebond and my hair remained straight and shiny despite chucking the expensive L'Oreal shampoo and leave-on conditioner for Oilganics (at a much cheaper price!). I'm considering asking Oilganics if their product can still be used long after the pesky lice have gone :-P

Helper Horror #2 The Early Years

My earliest memory of a helper horror story was when I was 4 or 5 years old.  The events are quite hazy in my head already.  But I recall quite vividly the maid hiding me behind a couch and giving me the set of house keys.  She told me to stay there and hold on to the keys.  I did as I was told.

A few seconds later, I hear a horrified shout and see my brother (11 or12 years old at this time) running through the living room where I was "hidden".  Hot on his heels was the same maid, brandishing a large pair of scissors.

The rest of the story I got from my mom as I honestly don't remember what happened afterwards.  Apparently, my brother (yes, he survived unscathed and is still the bane of my existence or mayhap the other way around? lol) escaped to our neighbor's house.  Our neighbor rushed back to our place to secure me as well.  My parents came home to learn their kids were at the house next door.  They got the full story from us and the maid was promptly dismissed.

Learning Points:

(1) Be sure your children know what to do and who to run to in case of an emergency (assuming neither parent is available).

(2) To be fair, my brother was an utter brat and very disrespectful of our hired help at the time.  Of course, he did nothing to warrant being skewered, but it's always good to teach children to respect others - especially those who are caring for them.

So it begins...

10 years ago I knew exactly what I wanted and where I was headed.  I slaved through college and my first job.  Overtime, holiday work, graveyard shifts,  the works.  Got promotion after promotion and was right on track...

2 months ago I gave it all up to be a bonafide SAHM (Stay At Home Mom). :)

I'm probably the most undomesticated mom ever.  I can't cook, clean, or drive a car.  But I do love my daughter and thus far, have not regretted being able to prioritize her at last.  Still, after 2 months of adventures (or misadventures as it were) struggling to adjust to my new lifestyle, find a part time job, pick up some domestic skills, and raise my daughter; I've decided to chronicle my recent and future foibles.

Perhaps someday my family and I can look back and laugh about all this.  Perhaps someone out there will actually learn from my experiences with scary interviews, filtering out scams, cleaning up my house, vacations with a toddler, helper horror stories, and so much more...

Enjoy the ride :)  I plan to!
